Siri Shortcuts on iOS 12

Things 3.10 has been released, and it removes the Shortcuts builder from Things’ settings. This was necessary due to significant changes that were required to support the new Shortcuts app in iOS 13. Unfortunately, this means that existing shortcuts will no longer work. If you would like to keep using Shortcuts with Things, you’ll need to upgrade to iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 and rebuild your shortcuts. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Siri Shortcuts on iOS 13.0

Things 3.10 has been released, and it removes the Shortcuts builder from Things’ settings. This was necessary due to significant changes that were required to support the new Shortcuts app in iOS 13. Unfortunately, there is no way to migrate existing shortcuts to the new format – this means that those shortcuts will no longer work and you’ll need to rebuild them.

Please note:

  • To use features like conversational shortcuts you have to run iOS 13.1 which Apple released on September 24.
  • To build new-format shortcuts for the iPad, you have to run iPadOS 13 which Apple released on September 24.
  • An old Workflow action called Add Things To-Do is still visible in the Shortcuts app. Apple plans to eventually remove it, so you should avoid it completely. Use the Add To-Do action instead.

Things 3.10 update not showing up

If you don’t see the new Things 3.10 update in the Updates tab, here are some things you can try:

  • Sign out of the App Store (not iCloud) and back in. Then go to App Store > Updates to download the update.
  • Sign out of the App Store (not iCloud) and reboot your device. Then go to App Store > Updates to download the update.
  • Make sure that you are signed into the App Store with the same Apple ID that you used to buy the app originally.
  • Go to the App Store’s Today tab > user icon > Purchased and then search for Things in your list of purchases.
  • Check in Things > Settings > About that you haven’t installed the update in the meantime already (if you did, you’d see “Things 3.10” in the About screen).

If none of these steps help you locate the update Things, please make sure you are running iOS 12, iOS 13, or iPadOS 13. We are no longer supporting iOS 11. Users on iOS 11 will not see the Things 3.10 update.

If you’re on iOS 12 or 13 and can’t see the update after going through all the troubleshooting steps, please reach out to Apple’s support team. They are the only ones with access to your Apple ID and purchase history. As a developer, we have no way of checking your Apple ID to find out why an app update is not showing up for you – sorry!

Watch App Minimum Requirements

Things 3.10 has been released for Apple Watch and now requires watchOS 5 or later. This means that some older Watch models will no longer be able to install Things. We apologize for the inconvenience.

“Update Required: You’ve used a newer version of Things on another device”

When we released Things 3.9.0 on May 13, 2019, we included a Things Cloud upgrade which requires that Things on all your devices be updated to the latest version. Any devices not running Things 3.9 or later will stop syncing until they are updated. Once updated, the app will continue syncing as normal.

To update to version 3.9 or a more current version, simply visit the App Store on your device, locate Things, and download it. It’s a free update for all customers who already own Things 3.

If for some reason you don’t see the update, please try the following:

  • On the Mac, navigate to the App Store's Update page and hit ⌘ Cmd + R.
  • If that doesn’t help, or you are stuck on an iOS device, try rebooting your device or logging out of the App Store and back in again.
