Reset a forgotten password

If you’ve forgotten your password, you can reset it. Here’s how:

Mac
  1. On your Mac, open Things.
  2. In the menu bar at the top of your screen, click ThingsSettingsThings Cloud.
  3. If Things Cloud is on, toggle the switch OFF.
  4. Click the switch to turn Things Cloud ON.

  6. Click → Reset password beneath the two entry fields.
  7. Follow the instructions on the web page* that opens to reset your password.
  8. Enter the new password into the Things Cloud settings on your Mac.

The next time you go to the Things Cloud settings on any of your other connected devices, you’ll be asked to enter the new password.

*The password reset link will be valid for 60 minutes after it has been sent to you. If you’re not seeing the password reset email in your email inbox within a few minutes, please also check your Spam/Junk/Trash folders. You might have to log into the web interface of your email provider because some email apps don’t download all spam/trashed emails.

  2. Go to SettingsThings Cloud.
  3. If Things Cloud is on, tap the switch to turn it OFF.
  4. Tap the switch to turn Things Cloud ON.
  5. Tap Log In.
  6. Tap Forgot Password?
  7. Enter the email address you used when setting up your account.
  8. Tap OK
  9. Tap Send.
  10. Check your emails* for instructions on how to reset your password.
  11. Enter the new password into the Things Cloud settings on your iPad or iPhone.

The next time you go to the Things Cloud settings on any of your other connected devices, you’ll be asked to enter the new password.

If you’re not seeing the password reset email in your email inbox within a few minutes, please also check your Spam/Junk/Trash folders. You might have to log into the web interface of your email provider because some email apps don’t download all spam/trashed emails.

Watch

If you’re using Things for Apple Watch, follow the instructions in the iPad & iPhone tab above to reset the password for your Things Cloud account.

Vision

In Things for Vision, please follow the same steps as described in the iPad & iPhone tab above.

Lost access to your email address?

If you no longer have access to the email address you used to create your Things Cloud account, and you’re not currently logged into that Things Cloud account, you will not be able to change the password. This is for security reasons: the owner of the account must confirm the password reset, and the reset link can only be sent to the email address that was used to create the account.

If you’re in this scenario, you should just create a new Things Cloud account, with a new password, using an email address you can access. If Things Cloud is currently on, just toggle the switch off and back on to to create a new account. Any to-dos which are currently in Things on that device will be uploaded to the new account.

FAQ

What happens to my data when I turn Things Cloud off?
Nothing. Your data is stored on your device, as well as in Things Cloud. If you disable Things Cloud, the data will still be on your Mac, iPad, iPhone, or Vision.
I don’t have access to my email address, I forgot my password, and I don’t see my to-dos in Things. How do get them back?
If you used Things Mac and you made backups – via Time Machine or another backup service – there might be a chance of restoring your data. Our support team can try to assist you with that.

If you only used Things for iPhone/iPad or Things for Vision, have you ever manually backed up your database, like this? If so, our support team can help you restore the database.

If you have no data inside the app on your device, no backups, no access to the original Things Cloud email address, and no record of your Things Cloud password, you will not be able to recover your to-dos.
