Here’s how Things 2 users can move their to-dos over to the new app.
First of all, if you’re an existing customer, we want to thank you for purchasing Things and supporting its development over the years. As a small company with a single product, we rely on your support to continuing making the app and hope you’ll love all the new features in Things 3!
Will my Things 2 license for Mac work with Things 3?
No. Things 3 is a new app, sold separately from Things 2. This is also our first paid update (since 1.0!) for existing users.
Can I get a discount on Things 3 if I already own Things 2?
Due to the way the App Store works, there’s no way to offer discounted pricing for only some people – it only allows us to lower the price for everyone. So when we released Things 3 on May 18, 2017, we discounted the apps by 20% for everyone for two weeks. During that time, we attempted to help our existing customers migrate by reaching out to as many people as we could via Twitter, Facebook, in-app notices, our blog, and our newsletter. The launch discount is now over, and we don’t have any other way to offer a discount. However, if you bought Things 2 on or after March 1, 2017, please contact us (with your proof of purchase) for a free upgrade.
Can I try Things 3 before buying?
If you’re on a Mac, yes – just download the fully-functional 15-day trial (requires macOS 10.11 or later).
If you’re on iPad, iPhone, or Apple Watch, Apple doesn’t provide any way to offer a trial version. Sorry.
How do I buy Things 3?
Things 3 is available from the App Store for Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch. To install the apps you must be running at least macOS 10.11, iOS 12, and watchOS 5.
How do I move my to-dos from Things 2 to Things 3?
You can migrate your to-dos via Things Cloud. Learn more here.
Will Things 3 sync with Things 2?
No. Things 3 has new features that don’t exist in Things 2, and to support those new features your Things Cloud account will be automatically upgraded to a new sync schema that doesn’t work with the older versions.
Will you continue to support Things 2?
If you want to continue using Things 2 you can, and we’re happy to answer any questions you may have. However, since Things 2 has been removed from sale, there’s no way for us to release updates or bug fixes for it going forward. If you need to reinstall Things 2, please see this page for instructions.
